Roger Mayweather: Pacquiao vs. Marquez rematch is not needed – Boxing News
Roger Mayweather, trainer and uncle of Floyd Mayweather jr., believes another episode of Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez is not needed. According to him, the rivalry between both the pugilists is getting old and is no longer of fans’ interest.
In his recent interview, Mayweather came up saying, “For what? They don’t need that bull---t. They might as well sit back, relax, and let my nephew whoop his a*s. Then he’ll know who the truth is, that’s it. The [expletive] ain’t a criminal. I don’t know
why they don’t give him house arrest privileges. I guess they want him to do time to make him feel like he’s in a cell block. That’s the only thing I could see.”
It seems like Roger Mayweather is proud of his nephew and confident that Mayweather jr. will beat Manny Pacquiao any day. However, it should be noted here that a match between two of the most popular pound for pound boxers is unlikely to happen, as they
both have their own plans. Pacquiao’s camp recently revealed that they are looking forward to a rematch against Marquez, Cotto or Bradley. On the other hand, Mayweather is looking at Amir Khan as a possible opponent for 2013.
Earlier this year, news of Pacquiao vs. Mayweather being set for May 5 emerged but soon faded away. Both the pugilists were in direct contact with each other to get the fight done but they could not. According to Pacquiao, the main reason behind the fight
not happening was Mayweather’s consistent demand of grabbing the entire pay-per-view proceedings. According to Pacquiao, it was embarrassing for him when Mayweather said he wanted to keep the revenues and pay him $40 million flat.
On the other hand, Mayweather had justified his stance saying that he is the most expensive fighter in the world and he is better than Pacquiao. According to Mayweather, if Pacquiao wants the fight to happen then he must submit to his terms.
For now, a bout between both of them is nowhere near yet Roger Mayweather insists that Mayweather jr. will ‘whip’ Pacquiao.
