Roger Varian reveals plans for Ektihaam – Horseracing news
Trainer Roger Varian has claimed that Ektihaam could make an appearance in the Group 2 Princess of Wales' Stakes at Newmarket in July.
The young challenger took a tumble in his most recent outing and suffered some injuries. However, he has been making a good recovery and things might get normal for him before the all important class-1 encounter.
According to Varian, “Luckily, Ektihaam is fine after his Ascot fall and we are happy to have him in one piece. I'm not ruling out running him in the Group 2 Princess of Wales' Stakes at Newmarket on July 11 we will just have to see how he is nearer the time.”
The four-year-old gelding took part in a couple of races at Ascot this year. This was the first time, when he made an appearance at this venue, thus there was immense pressure on him. Despite that, the bookies had rated him quite highly and he lived up to their expectations, winning the first event he took part in.
Surprisingly, the margin of his victory was six lengths, which forced the bookies to give him the best odds next time around. He was in a very comfortable position during that race too, but failed to maintain his balance and fell badly. However, he escaped any major issues and is getting back to normal quickly.
Overall, Ektihaam has participated in a total of 10 races, winning four of them whereas secured the runner up spot on a couple of times. In addition to that, he finished in third place once, which shows that he consistently delivers good results for his team. Therefore, his fans will be hoping to see him in action sometime soon.
On the other hand, another star performer at the Royal Ascot, Duntle will make an appearance in the Newmarket Festival. Representative to her owners Alan Cooper said, “I have had a good discussion with her trainer, David Wachman, and he is very happy with the way that Duntle has come out of Ascot, so we will definitely have a look at the Falmouth.”
The four-year-old filly has maintained a very good strike rate in her career, which has put her right on top of the list of the most consistent performers.
