Rogerio Dutra Da Silva beats Guillermo Rivera-Aranguiz in the quarterfinals – Manta Open 2011 CH
Second-seeded Rogerio Dutra Da Silva of Brazil scored a 6-1, 6-2 win over Guillermo Rivera-Aranguiz of Chile in the quarterfinal of the 2011 Manta Open. Da Silva took one hour and eleven minutes to send Rivera-Aranguiz packing
with a straight-sets loss.
The 27-year-old Brazilian began the match confidently as he looked to attack Rivera-Aranguiz right from the beginning, who has yet to won an ATP (Association of tennis Professional) title. Da Silva kept himself focused and managed
to lock a place for himself in the semi-final of the Manta Open.
The Brazilian tennis player performed very well in the first set of the match, scoring a whopping three aces while committing no double-fault. He also managed to convert two of three break points successfully, although he did not
face any break point opportunity on his serve. The Brazilian eventually won the set after breaking Rivera-Aranguiz’s serve twice to take the first set with a breadstick win.
Maintaining his form in the second set the Brazilian continued his dominance as he stamped his authority and found his rhythm to take the final set 6-2.
Although Rivera-Aranguiz put up a decent fight in the second set, he was never really in the match and lost it with a whopping difference of twenty six points in total. The Brazilian went on to win comfortably with some of his
sublime tennis. He took 68 percent of total service points and won the set 6-2, with an impressive backhand volley down the line.
Da Silva concluded his quarterfinal victory with a whopping seven aces while committing only a single double-fault. In contrast, Rivera-Aranguiz did not hit a single ace but managed to score 45 percent on service, 27 percent on
return and 35 percent of points in total, losing the match with a 6-1, 6-2 score line.
By virtue of his straight sets win, the Brazilian has now managed to take the lead in their head-to-head record by 1-0 and now moves on into the semi-finals of the tournament where he will meet fourth-seeded Brian Dabul, who edged
past Julio Cesar Campozano to set up a clash with the Argentine here at Manta, Azerbaijan.
