Rogerio Dutra Da Silva ousts Guido Andreozzi in 1st round – Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011
Third seeded Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Da Silva thrashed Argentinean lucky loser Guido Andreozzi in the first round of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
The rivals battled it out on outdoor clay courts of the Guayaquil Tennis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador and it took the third seeded Brazilian only fifty nine minutes to get rid of the Argentinean lucky loser in straight sets of 6-1, 6-2 on Tuesday the 22nd of November 2011.
Silva dominated both the sets but in the opening round he targeted eighty five percent of his first serves and achieved an ostentatious eighty eight percent of his first service points. Moreover, he had an excellent defence which did not falter even once during the entire set!
Instead, he did not set up a single breakpoint opportunity for his adversary and capitalized on two out of the four breakpoints. With an above average return, he managed to accomplish twice as many points as his adversary to clog the opening round.
The initial round of the match was initiated by Silva and he capitalized on a breakpoint in the second game to reel of three successive games with a hold of serve in the third game to take a mini lead on the scoreboard.
It was in the fourth game that Andreozzi made a return with a hold of serve and even though, he had ample opportunity to reduce the deficit and make a better return, he was unable to do so.
Moreover, the third seeded Brazilian not only managed to hold his serve in the fifth game but also capitalized on a second breakpoint in the sixth game; he was now only a game away from clogging the opening set. As he held his serve for the last time, he smashed a marvellous backhand winner to go one up in the match.
The lucky loser was no match for the third seed and after taking a beating in the opening round, he still was unable to make a return. Eventually, he lost the second set as well.
Commencing the second round was also Silva and this time both the players held their respective serves to bag a game each. In the following two games they once more repeated the feat and tied the score two games each at the end of the fourth game.
In the fifth game Silva held his serve and then broke his adversary in the sixth game to further extend his lead to 4-2. He then utilized the serve-break method to seal his victory of the second set by restricting his adversary to only two games.
The third seed will now be facing Italian Matteo Viola in the second round of the tournament.
