Rogerio Dutra Da Silva swallows Joseph Correa to advance into second round – Manta Open 2011 CH
Second seeded Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Da Silva shattered American wild card enterant Joseph Correa with double bagels at the Manta Open – Trofeo Ricardo Delgado, an ATP Challenger Tour event held at the Umina Tennis Club at Manta, Ecuador. He barely broke sweat to register a brilliant 6-0, 6-0 score and advanced into the second round on Monday.
Ranked 135th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, Da Silva outclassed the American in just forty-six minutes to not only book a second round spot but also take a 1-0 lead in their head-to-head series.
27-year-old Brazilian bombarded massive forehands and backhands to reel off all six games in a row. He produced a much higher first serve share of 85 percent as compared to Correa’s 64 percent and registered a fantastic 91 percent win on it. In addition to this, Da Silva faced zero breakpoint and founded ten breakpoint opportunities. He cashed in three of them to help seal the set with a bagel.
The Sao Paulo resident continued his winning ways in the final set and fished out easy points to win all six games again. He again clobbered a better first serve share and earned plausible 73 percent win on it. To spice the set further, Da Silva converted three out of six breakpoint chances to his advantage and smashed an ace.
Up next for the Brazilian is the Mexican Daniel Garza who downed a local wild card entrant, Roberto Quiroz in straight sets to reach this spot.
Eight seed Argentinean Facundo Arguello will be joining the Brazilian in the second round after slaying a local wild card enterer Galo Barrezuela with a bagel.
18-year-old Argentinean confidently entered the hard court venue and easily plucked in entire serves through quick forehands from his box of tricks. He saved the only breakpoint faced but converted two out of four breakpoint opportunities to his advantage to pocket the set with a 6-2 score line.
He perfected his winning ways into the second set as he unleashed flurry of groundstrokes to bag in all six games in a row. Arguello saved the only breakpoint conceded and capitalised on three out of four breakpoint opportunities to his advantage to earn the bagel.
Overall, the teenager committed more double faults and clobbered a lower first serve share of 57 percent as opposed to Ecuadorian’s 63 percent but he registered an impressive 79 percent win on it.
Up next for the youngster is the Brazilian Ricardo Hocevar who battled past Italian Matteo Marrai in a three set thriller to reach this spot.
