Rogerio Dutra Silva overpowers Nikola Ciric to reach quarterfinals – Uruguay Open 2011 CH
The straight set win by fifth seeded Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva, was exactly what he wanted to cruise into the quarterfinals of the 2011 Uruguay Open. His opponent, the Serbian Nikola Ciric, was clueless as to what happened
in the match, as he could not deliver any counter attack to sustain Silva from winning games.
Ranked at world number 176th place in the world, Ciric tried to take the lead but his efforts went in vain.
The Serbian delivered five aces in the match but his aggressive run came with a price. He conceded four double faults that he may have avoided, had he played his service games with a bit caution.
Silva could not deliver any aces for he was not showing his offensive side in the match. He did, however, conceded double faults twice in the match. The Brazilian had a 76% first serve winning rate while Ciric could secure a 65%
rate.
27-year old Silva won 84% points from his first serve and 60%from his second. He remained dominant with his service games and proved to be a worthy competitor. His service games were right on the spot as Ciric remained unsuccessful
in breaking any of Silva’s serves.
Ciric won 53% points from his first serve and 44% points from his second. His service games were a bit shaky for he could not utilize his serves to the maximum.
The Serbian could not be as successful as his opponent in saving his breakpoints. He could only save two breakpoints from the six chances he got. His lack of success in his service games was the main reason why he remained in the
hunt to secure a lead.
As the first set began, Ciric scored four aces with a double fault once in the match. Silva could not score any ace and conceded two double faults.
Ranked at world number 122nd place in the world, Silva was exceptional as he won all points from his first serve. His second serve points reduced as he could only win 56% points.
The Serbian won 60% points from his first serve in the first set and 43% points with his second serve. Silva did not let Ciric break any of his serves in the first set while Ciric could only save two out of his four breakpoints.
Silva won the first set 6-3.
Entering into the second set, Ciric scored an ace and conceded a double fault once. Silva played shots with a decent flow, which is why he did not deliver any ace nor had any double fault.
The Brazilian was near flawless in the second set as he had a 95% first serve winning ratio while Ciric could only secure a 40% rate. Silva won 75% of his points from first serve and won all of his points from his second serve.
The Serbian, on the other hand, could win 40% and 44% points from his first serve and second serve respectively.
Silva was again on target with his service games, as he did not face any breakpoints while the Serbian could not save any of the two breakpoints he faced.    Silva kept on winning his games with his decent stride, natural shots
and aggressive yet controlled on-court game play.  The Brazilian won the second set 6-1 and cruised into the quarterfinals of the 2011 Uruguay Open.
