Rogers Cup 2010: Andy Murray defeated Gael Monfils in Toronto
The Brit number one tennis ace, Andy Murray won his third round battle of the Rogers Cup tennis tournament 2010 against the French tennis player Gael Monfils on Thursday. The final match score of the two setter clash was 6-2, 0-6, and 6-3.  As a result of this victory, the Scot tennis player, Andy Murray has made his way into the quarterfinal of the Canadian Open 2010 in Toronto.
Murray after the match commented, "I just played the way I wanted to. Although I get distracted at one point during the second set of the match, however, I did well in the end. Monfils is a great fun to watch and I enjoyed playing against him. However, it’s tough at times to stay focused against him”.
Murray was not satisfied with his Wednesday’s performance against Xavier Malisse, as his movement was not up to the mark apart from the fact that he didn’t fight with a high level of energy as well. Anyhow, the Scot did well in his yesterday’s match by securing a comfortable victory over Monfils.
As a result of this victory, Murray will face the former third ranked tennis ace, David Nalbandian in his quarter final battle on Friday at the York University in Toronto. Nalbandian has made his way into the quarterfinal of the Rogers Cup tennis tournament 2010 after knocking down Robin Soderling in a total of three sets. The final match score was 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
The fourth seeded Andy has so far played against David on two occasions and couldn’t win any one of them. However, it is just history now, as the Scot has improved a lot over the recent past.
The twenty three years old, Murray has to make his way into the final of the ATP Rogers Cup tennis tournament 2010, if he wants to remain at the number four spot in the world by the end of the tournament.
Murray after the match while commenting on his performance said that, “I played quite well in the first set of the match, the second set was the time where I get distracted for some time however the third set was pretty ok.”
Both the players applied aggressive tactic during the match and played in an attacking manner, however, it was the Brit number one tennis ace, Andy Murray who turned out to be a better player in the end. He was in more control of his game, as compared to the unpredictable French tennis player, who Murray described prior to their battle as “perhaps one of the best athlete he has ever seen.”
“There are still a lot of people who are not aware of his athleticism. But the guy has it for sure,” Murray commented of his French opponent in a pre match interview.
"He is a great athlete, highly entertaining and energetic while playing on the court so it’s fun to face him, “he added.
David Nalbandian, the runner up of the 2002 grass court Grand Slam tournament, is going to be Murray’s next quarterfinal challenge on Friday. David has been playing quite well over the last few weeks and has extended his winning streak to a total of eleven matches with a victory over Robin Soderling.
The Swedish tennis ace fired a total of fourteen  aces however, his all round game was not enough in the end, as he was knocked down by the world number forty five from Argentina in a total of three sets.
In another match, the Swiss tennis master Roger Federer has also reached the quarterfinal round of the Rogers Cup tennis tournament 2010, after defeating Michael Llodra in a total of two sets on Thursday. The final match score was 7-6 (7/2) 6-3.
As a result of this victory, Federer will meet Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinal round, who previously thrashed out the third ranked Swiss in a total of four sets at the grass court Grand Slam quarters last month.
