Rogers Cup 2010: Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray win Round 2 matches
Serbian tennis ace Novak Djokovic struggled to win his second round match against Frenchmen Julien Benneteau at the Rogers Cup on Wednesday. The 23-year-old Serb in the end won the match in a total of two sets. The final match score was 7-5, 7-5.
In Wednesday’s second clash, British tennis sensation Andy Murray comfortably won his opening match of the 2010 Rogers Cup after beating Xavier Malisse at the York University. Murray is participating as the defending champion since he was the winner of last year’s Rogers Cup. The final match score was 7-5, 6-2. Andy dominated right from the start of the match against Malisse on Wednesday. He fired a total of seven aces to clinch the match.
Meanwhile Djokovic had to tough it out in Toronto. After the match, the Serbian accepted the fact that the heat did affect his game to a great deal.
"I kind of struggled in today’s match as I was not playing at my very best however it’s just a matter of one or two matches and soon I will get used to of this heat. What is important for me as far as today’s match is concerned is the fact that I won in the end, said the Serb whose seasonal infirmity affected him for the last few years.
Novak Djokovic has won the 2007 edition of the Rogers Cup. But as far as yesterday’s match was concerned, the second seeded smashed his tennis racket during the second set of the match. However, the player eventually won his fourth match against Benneteau.
The Serb was appearing for the first time since leading his side into the semi-finals of the Davis Cup last month. Djokovic managed to beat the 33ranked Julien Benneteau in a time period of two hours. He previously defeated him in the first round at Wimbledon.
The player said, "When I wanted to smash winners, I did so without even having a second thought about it. So that was something positive that I can extract from today’s match. The temperature was at least 30 Celsius and the surface absorbs it and as a result makes the entire atmosphere even irresistible. I hardly managed to survive in the heat today.”
As a result of this victory, the Serbian Novak Djokovic will meet Victor Hanescu, a Romanian tennis player in his next battle. Victor made his way into the third round of the tournament after knocking down Peter Polansky in his previous match in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 7-6 (7/4).
In another match on Wednesday, Michael Llodra upset the Spanish tennis ace Nicolas Almagro in a total of three sets. The final match score was 7-6 (7-5) and 6-2. Moreover, 15th seed Gael Monfils also knocked down Thiemo de Bakker in a two setter clash. The final match score was 7-5, 6-3.

This season’s Washington champion David Nalbandian continued his winning momentum and successfully thrashed Spains Tommy Robredo in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-0.
