Rogers Cup 2010: Peter Polansky out of the tournament
Canadian star Peter Polansky was knocked down by Romania’s Victor Hanescu in the second round match of the Rogers Cup 2010 on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-4, 7-6 (4). However, in spite of the fact that the Canadian top ranked tennis contender is out of the Rogers Cup 2010 but the encouraging aspect is that he was not completely outclassed by his Romanian tennis opponent at the York University on Wednesday.
Polansky reached the second round of the tournament after knocking down Jurgen Melzer on Monday. And after a one day break, the local tennis ace was given a great chance in nearly ideal conditions for a major breakthrough in his career. However, Peter couldn’t avail the opportunity.
Anyhow, no one can deny the fact that Polansky being a wild card entrant didn’t play bad at all. He had chances to grab some points and come back into the game on Wednesday in the second round match of the Rogers Cup however Victor didn’t let him do so.
As a result of this defeat, Peter Polansky who was the last hope of the Canadian fans is also out of the Rogers Cup 2010. This depicts the present situation of the Canadian tennis as Canada has so far failed to produce any male or female tennis player who could represent its country at major events. Polansky did not perform the way he fought against his first round match against Melzer on Monday.
According to the Canadian sports experts, he was required to further improve his game in the next matches of the tournament instead of falling down like that.
Peter when asked that is he going to represent his country at major events in the future replied by saying that, “Yes, I think I can. However, it’s pretty hard to think at this stage as I need to work really hard in order to reach that level but hopefully you will see a major improvement in my game in the near future.”
The most important news as a result of Peter’s defeat is that the Canadian Open 2010 is once again lacking the local players even prior to the start of the latter rounds.
At some points, Hanescu’s experience also benefited him over the young Canadian at the York University on Wednesday. He made effective use of drop hits which is a little uncommon for the tall man. During the tie breaker in set number two, Hanescu grabbed the last three points with a superb cross court forehand winner.
After the match, the 29-year-old Hanescu said, “Peter definitely had some opportunities to come back in the game throughout the match however he didn’t avail them. Maybe I played with a greater degree of focus and concentration as compared to the Canadian and as a result won the match”, he added.
There is certainly no doubt about the fact that Peter Polansky has the sporting talent and flair without any question. All he needs to do is to practice and develop his game in order to represent his country at the highest level as well as improve his own world rankings.
