Rogers Cup 2010: Philipp Petzschner and Jurgen Melzer defeat Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil
The Canadian tennis pair of Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil was knocked out from the Rogers Cup tennis tournament 2010 in a total of two sets by Philipp Petzschner and Jurgen Melzer on Tuesday. The final match score read 6-2 and 6-4. The Canadians were ousted in fifty minutes at the York University.
Raonic along with his partner Pospisil previously shocked everyone after upsetting the two top ranked tennis players, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the doubles competition. Raonic is currently listed at number two hundred and seventeen in singles rankings where as his partner Pospisil is listed number three hundred and twenty nine in the world.
Raonic while commenting on the loss exclaimed, “it was a tight match and we didn’t manage to win it in the end.”
Pospisil on the other hand, while commenting on their performance said, "They were really tough as both of them fought pretty well in the end’, he added.
Two other locals were also kicked out from the singles draw of the Rogers Cup tennis competition on Tuesday. Pierre-Ludovic Duclos was thrashed out by Yen-Hsun Lu in their singles clash in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4 and 6-4. Frank Dancevic was also defeated by Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-1 and 6-4. After Frank’s loss, the only Canadian left in the singles draw of the Rogers Cup tennis tournament 2010 at the moment is Peter Polansky.
Frank after his defeat explained, "It was my very first clash against a top contender this season after recovering from injury”, he added. "And right from the set number one of the match, I felt that it’s going to be really hard to win this one."
Raonic while commenting on Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil said, “They were obviously aware of our performance against Nadal and Novak so they were both well prepared for the match”, Raonic said. "They are undoubtedly one of the best doubles pair as they won this season’s grass court Grand Slam tournament as well and they have been performing well over the past.”
Raonic along with Pospisil knocked down Rafa and Djokovic on centre court in their opening match of the tournament and shocked everyone at the York University. However, they couldn’t replicate their winning performance against Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic on Tuesday.
Pospisil while commenting on their record setting victory said, "I was up for the whole night in excitement that didn’t let me sleep and defeating Nadal and Djokovic isn’t something that’s going to happen every other day”.
As far as their loss was concerned, Raonic said, "We did play at our very best and tried really hard to win the match at York University. However, the guys showed today that they are better players than us. They are already playing well this season as they recently won the grass court Grand Slam doubles tournament and once again proved their class and talent to the entire world.”
Raonic, in the singles contest was kicked out in round one of the championship after being defeated by Victor Hanescu in Toronto.
Raonic while commenting on the Canadian tennis said, “they all wish the Canadian players to rise and reach the ATP world top hundred rankings and so everyone is working hard to achieve this target as soon as possible.”
