Rogers Cup 2010: Roger Federer advances to quarterfinal round
Third ranked Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer has reached the quarterfinal round of the Rogers Cup tennis tournament 2010 after defeating Frenchman Michael Llodra on Thursday. The 29 years old Federer, who is seeded third for the Canadian Open, outclassed Michael in a total of two sets at the York University in Toronto. The final match score read 7-6 (2), 6-3.
The Swiss has won the Rogers Cup on two previous occasions so far in his career back in 2004 and 2006. He got the better of Michael Llodra in a time period of one hour and nineteen minutes on Thursday to reach the quarterfinal round of the championship. As a result of this victory, the Fed Express, as he is commonly called, will meet the seventh seeded Tomas Berdych from the Czech Republic in the quarterfinal. Tomas has made his way into the next round of the competition after defeating Alexandr Dolgopolov in a three setter clash. The final match score was 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-4.
In other matches on Thursday, Rafael Nadal from Spain, Serbian Novak Djokovic as well as the fourth seeded Andy Murray form Scotland won their respective clashes and reached the next round of the Rogers Cup 2010.
Michael Llodra after losing his match against Roger Federer asked for his pink coloured shirt that the Swiss tennis master was wearing in his match. Federer while commenting on his pink said, “This is the third time when someone has asked me for my shirt.”
While commenting on Federer’s game, Michael said, “Federer is a legend of the game of tennis beyond any measure of speculations.”
During the second set of the match, Michael Llodra attempted to hit a curveball however couldn’t manage it in the end.
The right handed Federer looked comfortable throughout his match and played his natural game without any sort of pressure at all. While commenting on his game, Federer told reporters that he enjoyed his game against Michael at the York University in Toronto.
“This is how a player should play in order to win his matches”, said Federer. “Since he is a good serve and volley player so my entire focus throughout the match was to move forward early on in the point.”
On the other hand, the top seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal in his match on Thursday easily knocked down Kevin Anderson, a qualifier from South Africa in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 7-6 (6). Novak Djokovic in his match defeated Romanian tennis ace Victor Hanescu in straight sets. The final match score was 6-3, 6-4.
Britain’s number one Andy Murray defeated Gael Monfils from France to book his place in the quarterfinals of the Rogers Cup tennis competition 2010. The final match score was 6-2, 0-6, and 6-3. Murray will face David Nalbandian, an Argentinean tennis player in the quarterfinals. David has reached the quarterfinal round of the tournament after beating Robin Soderling, a fifth seeded player in a three setter clash. The final match score was 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Murray after the match while commenting on Robin Soderling said, “He is a very good player without any doubt and one of the best in the world when plays at his very best. So it was a difficult clash for sure.”
In another match, Jeremy Chardy, a French tennis player upset sixth seeded Nikolay Davydenko in a two setter clash where as Germany’s contender Philipp Kohlschreiber thrashed down Yen-Hsun Lu with a final match score of 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-0.
Chardy as a result of this victory will face Djokovic in his next match where as Kohlschreiber will meet Rafael Nadal.
