Rogers Cup 2010: The Canadian’s steal the show on Monday
The Canadian male tennis players exhibited some wonderful display of the game of tennis on Monday at the Rogers Cup 2010 in Toronto.
During the first match of Monday, Polansky shockingly knocked down Jurgen Melzer in a two setter clash. The final match score was 7-6, 6-4.  Jurgen came in as a fifteen ranked tennis player by the ATP that places him one hundred and ninety two points above the highest ranked local tennis ace, Polansky.
Raonic along with Pospisil celebrated their victory on exactly the same surface having upset the two top ranked tennis players, Rafael Nadal, as well as Novak Djokovic in their doubles clash. The Canadian pair won the match in a total of three sets at the Centre court. The final match score was 5-7, 6-3, 10-8.
"We were already prepared to play a tough match”, Pospisil said, "and we did manage to follow our game plan successfully”.
On the other hand, Polansky while commenting on his victory over the Australian tennis ace, Jurgen said after the match that, "What is the most encouraging thing for me today is the fact that I remained focused throughout the match and didn’t feel the pressure in front of such a huge crowd”, he added. "I just played my natural game and thankfully held my nerves”.
It is the very first occasion in the history of the game that a Canadian male tennis player has defeated a top fifteen player at his home championship in a total of seven years, since Simon Larose knocked down Gustavo Kuerten. Larose was listed number three hundred and fourteen at that time by the ATP rankings.
"It is a very special moment for me and will boost up my confidence for the upcoming matches”, Polansky said. "It's a huge encouragement for me to play even better as I have shown the world that I am no less than any other player in terms of talent and class”, he added.
Melzer reached the clay court Grand Slam French Open semi-final previously this season, where he was knocked down by the current number one tennis ace, Rafael Nadal. Polansky got the better of Melzer in a total of one hour and forty seven minutes.
"I am extremely happy for him”, said the older sister of Peter, Nicole Polansky.
Polansky, in his next match will meet a Romanian tennis ace, Victor Hanescu, who triumphed in his very first match versus Raonic on Monday as well. Raonic, a wild card local entrant was knocked down in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-4.
In some of the other clashes on Monday, Sergiy Stakhovsky from Ukraine knocked down a tennis player from France, Richard Gasquet in a total of two sets. Juan Ignacio Chela in his match defeated his Colombian tennis opponent, Alejandro Falla with a final match score of 6-1, 6-3.
On the other hand, Tommy Robredo thrashed out Jarkko Nieminen from Finland 6-1, 6-4, where as the South African Kevin Anderson defeated Leonardo Mayer 7-6 (2), 6-4, and Julian Benneteau got the better of Denis Istomin 6-4, 6-4.
As far as today’s matches are concerned, the third ranked Swiss, Roger Federer will play his first match since his Wimbledon quarter final exit last month at the All England Club.
Moreover, Raonic along with Vancouver's Pospisil will meet Philipp Petzschner and Melzer in their Tuesday’s clash in Toronto.
