Rogers Cup 2010: Wednesday’s Match Reviews
The United States Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki along with Elena Dementieva won their second round matches of the Rogers Cup Women’s Edition 2010 in Montreal on Wednesday.
Caroline, the second seeded player to win the title here in Montreal defeated Swiss tennis opponent Patty Schnyder in a total of two sets at the Uniprix Stadium on Wednesday. The final match score was 7-5 and 7-5.  
As a result of this victory, Caroline Wozniacki will meet fifteen seed Flavia Pennetta from Italy in her next round match.
In another match, fourth seed Elena Dementieva won against Czech player Klara Zakopalova in a total of two sets. The final match score read 6-2 and 6-4.
Elena Dementieva, the two-time finalist as well as the winner of a gold medal at the Olympic Games back in 2008, had outclassed Maria Sharapova in the final of the Rogers Cup in Toronto last year. This competition shifts between Montreal and Toronto each year.
Fifth seed Belgian Kim Clijsters, who won the title at the Cincinnati women’s tennis tournament just a few days ago, also managed to win her match against America’s Bethanie Mattek Sands. Kim dropped the first set 6-4 and as a result, found herself trailing 4-3 in the next one. Kim made a roaring come back to grab the last three games to win the third set of the match.
In another match, French Open winner Francesca Schiavone, who is seeded sixth in Montreal, defeated Russian opponent Ekaterina Makarova in a total of three sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-7 (5-7) and 6-2.  Pole Agnieszka Radwanska, a seventh seeded player eliminated Vania King, a qualifier from the United States of America in a two setter clash on Wednesday. The final match score was 6-0 and 6-3. Tenth seeded Victoria Azarenka on the other hand did well to handle her Russian opponent Maria Kirilenko in a total of two sets on the third day of the Rogers Cup in Montreal by defeating her with a final score of 6-4 and 6-1.  
Thirteen ranked Azarenka, who won the Stanford tournament a couple of weeks ago claimed her seventh victory in her previous eight encounters on Wednesday. Svetlana Kuznetsova, the eleventh seeded Russian tennis ace defeated her Swiss opponent Timea Bacsinszky in a total of two sets and thus registered her seventh victory in eight attempts. The two time Grand Slam winner Kuznetsova won the San Diego tennis tournament some fourteen days ago.
In other matches, Hungarian Agnes Szavay defeated thirteen raked Belgian Yanina Wickmayer in a three setter clash. The final match score was 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 and 6-4. Pennetta toppled Alisa Kleybanova with a final match score of 6-3 and 6-3. Unseeded Zheng Jie from China crushed the sixteen seeded Aravane Rezai from France in a total of three sets.
The seventh seeded French tennis player, Marion Bartoli also reached the third round of the Rogers Cup Women’s tennis tournament 2010 after the 39-year-old Kimiko Date Krumm retired from her match as a result of a thigh injury. Unseeded Dinara Safina defeated Nadia Petrova in a three setter clash on Wednesday. The final match score was 7-5, 4-6 and 6-4. Dinara will play Schiavone in her next round in Montreal. In an unseeded encounter, Kaia Kanepi eliminated Sybille Bammer in a total of two sets. The final match score was 7-5 and 6-2.
