Rogers Nod wins The Coral Maiden 285m Sprint – Greyhound Racing Update
Rogers Nod lived up to his reputation by winning the 285 metres Greyhound Open Race at the Hove in England on January 5, 2012. He managed to win a cash prize of £150 for his brisk run.
The winning dog was trained by J E Gammon, who was ecstatic with the result of the race. Rogers Nod is the son of Hondo Black out of Carloway Blossom, and the black dog was born in November, 2009.
He went into the race as the favourite, with a starting price of 6 to 4, and covered the race distance in 16.49 seconds, having started from trap number one.
Second place dog, Toots Too, was not far behind, as he covered the overall distance in 16.54 seconds, just 0.05 seconds adrift of the winning hound.
Toots Too, trained by M C B Collins, was also one of the favourites at the start of the race. He had a starting price of 2 to 1 and was positioned in trap three. Collins would have been proud of his dog, as he gave a tough time to the eventual winner.
The runner up dog was born in April, 2008, and he is the son of Lenson Ray out of Bunnies Tot.
The surprise of the race came from Threebearscameto, who started from trap number four and finished the race in third. His trainer A E Gardiner would have been content with the result, as his dog had a starting price of 8 to 1. He still managed to
give a tough time to the top two finishers, covering the race distance in 16.89 seconds.
He was the youngest of all the dogs in the race, born in June, 2010 to Droopys Scolari out of Mollys Award.
Switch On Son, took the fourth place after starting from trap number six. He had a starting price of 14 to 1, and he was not really expected to finish any better than that.
The D W Lee trained dog covered the race distance in 17.04 seconds. He was born in September, 2009, and he is the son of Ballymac Maeve out of Never Inn.
M A Peterson’s trained dog, Drumcrow Bond, ended up with a non-threatening fifth place finish, after starting from trap number five.
He was expected to do a lot better, as his starting price was 4 to 1. However, his finishing time was 17.16, which was absolutely below par. He was also born in September 2009 to Droopys Scolari out of Drumcrow Nicola.
The hound that completed the order of finish was Crossfield Bruce, who covered the race distance in 17.28 seconds. He started the race from trap number two and had a starting price of 7 to 1.
The dog trained by S A Cahill is the son of Ace Hi Rumble out of Crossfield Maryo, and he was born in 2009.
