Rogue Romance returns after more than year in an allowance race at Gulfstream Park
The 4-year-old Kenneth G. McPeek trained colt, Rogue Romance, was a real Triple Crown horse last year in his sophomore season, but a broken foot sidelined the colt with Triple Crown hopes dashed to ground. His last race was the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes,
where he was sent as the favourite, but finished third on the day under jockey Julien Leparoux.
After being sidelined for more than a year, Rogue Romance will return at Gulfstream Park, on a day when the venue will support the Grade 1 Florida Derby, along with five other graded stake on 31 March, 2012, but the day will kick off with the “two other
than” allowance race where Rogue Romance will run along with 8 other runners.
The Gulfstream Park allowance/optional claimer will be run over a distance of 1 mile on dirt, a race which will attract 4-year-old and above males and geldings.
The son of Trippi, Gourmet Dinner also came back after a long layoff, but he returned to the race with a run in an allowance/optional claimer at Gulfstream Park on 9 February, 2012, and finished fourth in that race.
The last year’s Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby winner, Watch Me Go, will also participate in the allowance race making it a stiff comeback race for Rogue Romance, while the stakes winner Uptowncharlybrown will also look to bounce back after his 9th place
finish in an allowance/optional claimer at Gulfstream Park on 26 February, 2012.
“He broke a foot in training here after that race while in training for the Louisiana Derby,” said McPeek. “We had to give him a lot of time off. It was a big disappointment because we thought we had a Triple Crown horse. He’s doing great now and we’re excited
to have him coming back.”

Catesby W. Clay owned Kentucky bred son of Smarty Jones, out of mare Lovington by Afleet, Rogue Romance broke his maiden at second asking back in 2010, and went on to win the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes.
He capped off the 2010 season with a third place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs, and as a sophomore he only raced once in the Risen Star Stakes.
