Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi’s unexpected poor run in the year-end finale at O2 Arena, London forced the Indian player to drop out of doubles top 10 rankings. Both these players were having a dream run during this season
as they won title at Stockholm and registered their place in the Barclays ATP Tour Finals.
The ‘Indo-Pak Express’ couldn’t manage to win single match in their round-robin contests and were the poorest performers of Group B. The other team from sub-consisted consisted of Leonard Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi; they were outstanding
as they managed to clinch the semi-final berth but were unable to move into the grand finale.
Bopanna and Qureshi had their chance to end the season as the world’s third best team but their dismal run in the year-end finale deprived them from that and at the moment it the Indian duo of Paes and Bhupathi at the number three
spot; Bopanna and Qureshi are ranked number four.
Indian tennis ace, Bopanna, declined to the 11th spot in ATP world doubles rankings. Both players have decided to not pair until the next six months and this decision was taken to have partnership with other players
and learn new traits of the game before they will join hands from the midst of the 2012 season and try to accomplish their goals.
Davis Cup player, Bopanna, has been an icon in the field of tennis for Indian upcoming players as he has been performing on elite platforms ever since he became part of Indian Davis Cup team member in 2002. He has played singles
tournaments in his early career but decided to continue his professional career as a doubles player. All his recent encounters have been in doubles category and his partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi has also been performing in doubles category for quiet sometime.
‘Indo-Pak Express’ has been consistently performing this year and triumphed on two major final occasions that includes Gerry Weber Open, contested in Halle, and Stockholm Open. They defeated the likes of Haase-Raonic in the former
and Melo-Soares in the latter final match. They were expected to perform better than their original performance in year-end finale as they were considered to be the most inform team at the start of the tournament.
Rohan Bopanna is expected to break into the top 10 rankings once again in 2012 but the decision of splitting up with Aisam-ul-Haq for six months leaves a great question mark as to whom he will partner with to commence his new
season.
