Rohan Denis and Clinton Avery join Pegasus Racing
The Pegasus Racing team, run by Chris White, has confirmed the reported signing of Darren Lapthorne and announced two more riders for the Australian Pro Continental team, Rohan Dennis and Clinton Avery.
The team already boasts a strong line-up culled from the ProTour peloton, including veteran Robbie McEwen, 12-time Tour de France stage winner. The team is building their line-up for the long-term, with the goal of achieving ProTeam status in 2012 and becoming
the first Australian team in the Tour.
“I’m excited to welcome these three emerging talents to the Pegasus team,” said CEO Chris White in the team press release. “Each brings with him a special quality and lots of promise, so I’m looking forward to seeing these guys develop to their full potential.
I know that our supportive team environment is the right place for this to happen.”
Dennis, like Lapthorne, is a local Australia signing while Avery comes from nearby New Zealand. Dennis, at 20 years of age, was on the gold medal-winning Australian team in the team pursuit competition at the Track World Championships and won two stages
and the overall leadership at the Tour of Geelong. He will be moving up to the Pro level from Continental team Jayco-Skins.
Avery, at 22 years old, was awarded a stagiaire trial with Team RadioShack this season after twice winning the Australian national under-23 road race champion title. He began his career as a mountain biker and became the national champion before switching
to road racing. With RadioShack, he won two Belgian Classics, the Vlaamse Pijl Harelbeke and the GP Stad Roeselare.
Daryl Impey is also moving from RadioShack, while Garmin riders, Svein Tuft, Robbie Hunter and Trent Lowe, add to the ProTour experience in the team.
