Rohit Karnatak surge into quarter-finals of 2012 Karnataka State Ranking Badminton Tournament
Rohit Karnatak played with great precision and paved his way to the quarter-finals of the Boy’s Singles Under-17 event in Belgaum 3 Star Karnataka State Ranking Badminton Tournament on September 3, 2012.
He cast out Suraj Saunshi by putting a concluding result of 16-21, 21-19 and 21-14 after an exhausting exercise of three sets.
This showdown was staged at Belgaum in India and a huge crowd assembled to watch this splendid show of badminton skills.
The unseeded but talented player Rohit displayed commendable fighting spirit and sealed the victory by winning the last two games.
Meanwhile, Suraj frittered away a golden opportunity of straight-set win and crashed out of the event in a woeful manner.
In the opening set of the match, he alarmed his rival by claiming four valuable points straight away in the beginning.
He mounted pressure with such an emphatic start and then doubled the impact by prevailing in couple of uninterrupted rallies just before the interval.
Suraj placed a respectable total of 11 at mid-game break and capitalised this initial advantage also in later part of the game.
He maintained this rhythm until last shot was played and emerged as victor with 21-16 score on the board.
However, Rohit did not take much time to come out of his bad patch and struck hard in the very next game. He showed transformed character in this crucial set and managed to avoid a straight-set defeat.
He made his intentions clear by ruling the court in a couple of opening rallies and then established a decent lead just before the announcement of the one-minute break.
At this stage, Suraj showed his class and counter-balanced the situation with a flurry of well placed strokes.
Though, he managed to catch his competitor before game point situation but luck was not on his side and he had to surrender after reading a 19-21 margin.
This development brought life back into the contest as both shuttlers were equal at one win each. They remained close on the points table in the first half of the set.
Finally, this nerve-racking game ended when Rohit placed an impressive figure of 21-14 to setup the next clash with Kiran M in the quarter-final round.
