Rohit Sharma guides Mumbai Indians vs. Chennai Super Kings – 1st innings Report – Part 2
The Chennai Super Kings’ bowlers were doing their captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians’ batsmen to just 67 runs in 10 overs. Yet the Mumbai Indians still had Rohit Sharma on the crease who would prove to be a thorn in the
Super Kings’ side and guide his team to a strong total.
Sharma could only watch as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ambati-Rayudu-c1007 ventured outside the crease as he looked to free his arms and the ball flying into row Z. Instead he misjudged the spin on the ball and Dhoni was left with the simple task of removing the bails to send the batsman
back to pavilion after scoring 27 runs.
Australian batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Symonds-c1045 made his way onto the crease as the Mumbai Indians looked to shift a gift and get their innings going. Sharma realised the importance of getting a move on as he smashed two fours off the last two deliveries of the 12th
over.
Symonds however did not find it as easy going as he struggled to find the gaps and had to settle for singles in a time when his side needed boundaries, as his partner seemed to be scoring for fun.
Rohit seemed to be on a mission to try and send the ball out of the ground as his second six of the match almost did so. The outrageous shot also brought up the batsman’s half century as Dhoni knew that his game plan now depended on getting Sharma out.
Yet try as he might Sharma was in the mood as he hit http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Joginder-Sharma-c67164 for two fours and another six in the 16th over as the run rate climbed to a more respectable 7.75 runs per over.
The aggression seemed to rub off on Symonds as he sent the ball over the boundary for another six as the batsmen looked to finish with a flurry in the final few overs. Bollinger seemed to halt the assault however when he only gave two runs away in the 18th
over, that is until Sharma decided to smash the last delivery for six and ruined the bowler’s hard work.
Suresh Raina did not see the funny side of things when a near comical display of fielding resulted in Sharma escaping with his wicket when he was dropped on the third delivery of the penultimate over. Raina could only look on in frustration when Sharma hit
him for a six on the next delivery.
Sharma fell short of his century however when his gamble did not pay off and his attempted six ended up in Mike Hussey’s hands with Bollinger claiming the wicket.
In the end the Mumbai Indians settled for a total of 164 runs for the loss of four wickets, leaving the Super Kings with a tough task in the second innings of the match.
