Rohit Sharma says they were determined to clinch the title – Cricket News
Rohit Sharma, the captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians, is over the moon to have won the sixth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and revealed that he has thoroughly enjoyed the additional responsibility of leading
the side.
Ricky Ponting, who was the official captain of the franchise, failed to deliver the goods with the bat in the earlier half of the league. As a result, the team management decided to drop the great Australian
batsman from the playing-11, handing over the captaincy to the young right-hander.
Sharma’s captaincy has been extremely impressive as he looked in control even in pressure situations, earning praise from a number of cricket pundits.
While expressing his views after the final of IPL 6, the stylish middle-order batsman was all praise for his players as well as the team management. Sharma is delighted with the performance of his bowlers in
the final, who restricted Chennai Super Kings’ strong batting line-up to merely 125 runs.
“Captaincy was a good challenge and it's been a great experience and a learning curve. We knew we haven't won the title for the last five years but this time we were very determined, credit goes to all the players
and staff involved,” said the Mumbai captain. “Plan was to bowl our strike bowler at their best batsmen. I want to thank everyone who supported us.”
On the other side of the coin, Michael Hussey, who finished the season as the highest run-scorer, is jubilant with his performance in the sixth edition of the IPL. However, the former Australian left-hander is
extremely disappointed that he failed to deliver the goods in the all-important encounter. Hussey hopes to be a part of the Super Kings in future as well.
“Good fun but couldn't do the business on the final-day. Thoroughly enjoyed playing for CSK and hopefully can continue playing for them,” the great batsman expressed.
Hussey scored 733 runs in 17 matches, with a batting average of 52.35 runs per innings, which is considered to be exceptional in the shortest format of the game. Including the best of 95, the left-hander managed
to register six half-centuries in the season.
