Aakash Chopra, the former Indian opening batsman, has expressed that Rohit Sharma is one of the most talented players in world cricket at the moment, but is equally disappointed that the right-hander has so far failed to fulfil his potential.
Sharma, 25, made his way to the global arena in 2007, making an immediate impression with his ability to time the ball brilliantly. The Maharashtra-born was a vital cog of the national team in their title triumph in the inaugural http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2007, played
in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
Despite being rated as one of the finest young talents, Rohit has so far struggled to deliver the goods consistently in international cricket, due to which, he has been in and out of the Indian limited-overs team and is yet to make his Test debut.
The stylish batsman made a significant impact for his country last year, earning two Man of the Series awards against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, one in the Caribbean and one at home. The youngster however, has had a poor time in 2012, so far managing just one half-century.
Chopra, in his article for ESPNcricinfo, stated that big things were expected from Sharma when he debuted for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, with an exceptional talent and the ability to play difficult strokes with ease.
“In 2007 Rohit Sharma burst onto the Indian cricket scene as a young player with immense potential destined for bigger things in life. When on song, he's been a delight to watch, for his languid movement makes batting look ever so easy,” the former cricketer
expressed.
However, Chopra slammed his inconsistent approach and feels that the right-hander needs to improve his shot-selection, if he hopes to survive in international cricket for long.
Chopra mentioned, “His batting, as one of my friends put it, swings between 'wow' and 'how'. When he pulls off those impossible shots, you admire in awe and then when he throws away his wicket to reckless shots, you wonder about the futility of his talent.”
In the 83 One Day Internationals Rohit has played till date, he has scored two hundreds and a dozen half-centuries.
