Rohit Sharma thinks he has time on his side - Cricket News Update
Indian middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RG-Sharma-c2309, who recently returned after playing a series in the Caribbean, has said that performing with both, bat and the ball will enhance his value for the side, further helping him cement a permanent place in the national
team.
Sharma, on his recent tour with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 A team surprised everyone with his bowling where he chipped in with regular wickets, bagging a total of 13 scalps across all formats.
The Nagpur player was recently selected in the 15-man national squad, which will contest an ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. When asked if he sees his role expanding in the team, he said that it’s part of every player’s job to contribute for his team.
“I think it is very good news for me and my team, anything you do on the field which is contributing towards your team’s success adds more value to your presence in the team,” the right-hander said.
Sharma had a miserable run with the bat against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 A where barring from a 94-run knock in the first innings of the first unofficial Test, he only managed scores of 23, 1, 13, 12 and 2 - a performance that has raised many questions over his Test
future.
“The only thing I have mentioned is 'consistency'. I just want to concentrate on that and contribute in every possible way and not just batting. I don’t want to put unnecessary pressure on myself I just want to enjoy every series I play,” the 25-year-old
commented n his batting performance in the Caribbean.
The right-hander got his first breakthrough when he led the Men in Blue to the 2006 Under-19 World Cup final, courtesy some exceptional batting display. The start to international career was also impressive when he scored two half-centuries as a 20-year-old
during the CB series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 2007.
However, the young batsman could not transform his early success into a consistent run scoring form and despite being a regular feature for the ODI side; he soon fell out of favour with the selectors and subsequently had to play second fiddle to other promising
talents in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SK-Raina-c2539.
Despite the setbacks, Sharma is hopeful to make a strong comeback into the Indian side and believes that he has time on his side.
“I don’t want to rush on to things, because lot of time is left [ahead]. I am sure things will fall in place if I keep doing the right things,” the talented batsman said.
