Rohmat Abdul Rohman treads into second round of 2013 Nasional Li Ning Jakarta Open
Indonesia’s young but spirited shuttler Rohmat Abdul Rohman played flawless badminton in the opening round of Djarum Sirkuit Nasional Li Ning Jakarta Open and gained access to second round on May 15, 2013.
He was up against the compatriot player Chan Ren Cong and both shuttlers remained head-to-head for 45 minutes.
Though, Rohmat took some time to read his rival’s game and lost the first set with 16-21 score but he managed to finish ending two games with an impressive result of 21-18 and 21-9.
On the other hand, Chan Ren failed to capitalise his first set win and bid adieu to this national tournament.
He raised his chances of success by performing exceedingly well in the opening game. He did not give his opponent enough time to get settled and established a decent lead in no time.
This initial advantage helped him to pile up a respectable total before the announcement of one-minute break.
After the interval, Chan Ren blundered in few consecutive rallies and allowed his competitor to proceed on the points table. However, he managed to reinstate his dominance when it mattered and won this crucial game with 21-16 margin.
The story was entirely different in the following game as Rohmat bounced back into contest with a strong reply and avoided a straight-set defeat.
He did not show any sign of bewilderment after first set loss and played with great conviction. His self confidence helped him to rise from the dust and he managed to finish first half of the set with a commanding position.
In latter part of the game, the Indonesian player saw bit off colour but his below par performance did not stop him from bagging this important match point. He registered a winning figure of 21-18 and setup a nerve-racking decider.
In third set of the match, Rohmat played impeccable badminton and locked the honour in a commendable manner. He maintained significant difference on the points table and wrapped this showdown with 21-9 total.
With this win he marched into the second round of the tournament where Nathaniel Ernestan Sulistyo is waiting for him.
