Roland Schoeman secures Men’s 100m freestyle gold: Day one – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Roland Schoeman of Phoenix Swim Club secured gold medal of the Men’s 100m freestyle on opening day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Friday, June 8.
The 31-year-old Schoeman stayed considerably ahead of his opponents from the start and made his way to the finishing end for the crown of the event. He demonstrated his stupendous in the double lap freestyle discipline and snared the title of the discipline.
With his immaculate efforts, Schoeman remained dominant over his competitors from the start and sprinted his way towards the finishing end for gold medal with the timing of 49.07 seconds.
The champion was followed by Darian Townsend of Tucson Ford Deal, who remained 0.78 seconds apart and hit the finishing wall with the timing of 49.85 seconds for silver medal.
The silver medallist was chased by Jordan Huff of Club Hawkeye-IA, who stayed 1.06 seconds slower from overpowering his foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing wall with the timing of 50.91 seconds for bronze medal.
The third position holder remained 0.27 seconds faster from Paul Gordon of Unattached-SD, who finished his swim in fourth best place by touching the wall with the timing of 51.18 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the event was secured by Chase Stephens of Unattached-NU, who was half body length slower and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 51.81 seconds.
The 20-year-old Stephens was followed by Townsend’s teammate, Jean Basson, who was only 0.10 seconds apart and posted a time of 51.91 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh position of the discipline was secured by Mitchell Friedemann of University of Arizona, who remained 0.30 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 52.21 seconds.
Eighth position of the discipline was obtained by Matthew Wilcox of Unattached-NU, who was only 0.09 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 52.30 seconds.
In addition, the Omaha meet will continue for two more days and will conclude on June 10 after the conclusion of all swimming events while the position holders raked medals for their blistering forms at the prize distribution ceremony.
