Roland Schoeman seizes Men’s 50m butterfly gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Roland Schoeman of South Africa seized gold medal of the Men’s 50m butterfly on opening day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Saturday, October 6.
The South African swimmer faced tough competition from his fellow swimmers in the shortest butterfly discipline but with his immaculate efforts, Schoeman managed to earn his way to the victory stand for gold medal.
He stayed half body length ahead of his closest competitor and cemented his place on top of the victory stand for gold medal by clocking a splendid effort of 22.34 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jason Edward Dunford of Kenya, who was 0.53 seconds apart and cruised his way towards the finishing blockade for silver medal by posting a wonderful time of 22.87 seconds.
Dunford was chased by Chad le Clos of South Africa, who stayed just 0.03 seconds behind and made his way to the finishing wall for bronze medal by producing a phenomenal effort of 22.90 seconds.
Similarly, le Clos remained 0.28 seconds faster from Thomas Shields of USA, who settled on the finishing end as fourth best finisher by submitting a time of 23.18 seconds.
Shields was traced by Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia, who suffered a loss of 0.05 seconds from his foregoing finisher and completed his race in fifth place by producing an effort of 23.23 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the race was obtained by Andrii Govorov of Ukraine, who was 0.27 seconds slower from his former finisher and emerged on the finishing end with a timing of 23.50 seconds.
Govorov was followed by Ashley Delaney of Australia, who stayed 0.05 seconds apart and ended seventh in the race by clocking a time of 23.55 seconds.
Subsequently, last spot of the race was obtained by Cameron Simpson of New Zealand, who stayed nearly 0.80 seconds behind and hit the wall with a timing of 24.34 seconds.
In addition, Schoeman was overjoyed after his victory in the single lap butterfly discipline and articulated that he would continue his hard work in order to achieve the same at forthcoming swimming competitions.
