Roland Thatcher makes the cut on a high note at the Travelers Championship
Roland Thatcher three-under par 67 in the second round of the Travelers Championship, at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, to tie for the fourth place, prior to the inclement weather forcing the game into suspension on Friday, June 22, 2012.
Thatcher sank a total of five birdies against two bogeys to settle two strokes behind the pace set by Fredrik Jacobson.
He now feels that he is in a great position to contend in the final two rounds with the aim of registering the first ever win of his career on the PGA Tour.
“I'm in good position through two rounds, and hopefully I can do something special here over the weekend,” he said.
The only problem that Thatcher faces is the lack of consistency in his performances. In the 10 events that he has played so far on the 2012 PGA Tour season, he succeeded in making the cut only twice.
He played reasonably well in the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com and tied for the 12th position.
Thereafter, he missed straight five cuts, which is a worrying factor for his career, especially on a tour like PGA.
He looked really happy after making the cut at River Highlands and said that he may earn a handsome amount of money through a strong finish on Sunday.
“I'm probably the least consistent player on this TOUR, so whenever I go out and miss five, six cuts in a row, that doesn't really surprise anybody, nor should it surprise anybody that occasionally I put together four rounds,” he said.
“So hopefully this is one of those weeks where I make a lot of money in a very short amount of time”.
In the meantime, Jacobson carded a four-under par 66 to take a one-stroke lead over Nathan Green and Charley Hoffman. Both Green and Hoffman have to finish their second rounds early Saturday morning.
The highlight of the day includes Hoffman’s five-under par score on the opening six holes that he played. He carded five consecutive birdies starting from the 11th hole before he went back to his tent, following the bad weather hitting the venue.
