Rolando Arellano wants Floyd Mayweather to give Victor Ortiz a rematch for his fans – Boxing news
Victor Ortiz’s manager Rolando Arellano is desperate to convince the five-division world champion and the current World Boxing Council World Welterweight Champion, Floyd Mayweather, to offer his fighter a rematch.
Mayweather recently secured a stunning fourth round knockout over Vicious Ortiz, when the two met at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on September 17, 2011. Ortiz head-butted Mayweather in the earlier stages of the fourth round but Mayweather struck him
as the Garden City warrior was trying to apologise afterwards.
Mayweather now holds an incredible record of winning all of his 42 professional fights, with 26 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout and he is considered as one of the best out there in his division. Therefore, Arellano stated Mayweather, who made
a minimum of $25 million from the fight, should give Ortiz another chance as he reckons a lot his fans will not be pleased with the way the fight ended.
“We want (Floyd) to do the right thing,” said Arellano. “Not only for us, but for his legacy and for his fans. More importantly for the Hispanic fans, who are the (biggest) consumers of boxing. Eighty percent of the people who buy pay-per-view are Hispanic
fans, and I can almost assure you that 70% are displeased with (the outcome).”
Ortiz’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya meanwhile is not happy with Joe Cortez, who was the officiating referee during the bout.
De La Hoya admitted Joe Cortez is a very responsible referee but on the same note, the Golden Boy insisted he must have had a bad night because he did not take control of the fight.
“He must have had an off-night, because I know for a fact that Joe Cortez is much better than that. … You take control of the fight and you tell each fighter, 'hey, let's fight. Let's fight clean.' He had no control of the fight,” he said.
Mayweather recently said he will offer Ortiz a rematch if he beats Andre Berto. However let’s see if the American superstar reconsiders his decision and offers Ortiz another chance to face him in the ring.
