Role model is homophobic?

Question

ok so ...im g*y...and i have this mother figure lady that i look up to (in her 40s, im 20)....and she is religious and homophobic....should i be honest with her.....i don't want her to hate me....

I guess you know the truth about role models and people we put up in pedestals: They're also human, like us. It's your call, only you can decide on what to do. But you have to be prepared for the distinct possibility and probability that it might be your last conversation with her as your mentor.

If you are g*y then you should look up to someone that excepts people equally so if she doesn't except you then maybe you shouldn't be looking up to her so highly. And if she really cares about you then she should be real with you just like you should be real with her.

That's wierd I am almost in the same situatioin. I have a paraprofessional( I have a hearing loss) and she is also homophobic and religious. It is very hard to see her in a good light but I just have to accept it because I need the help. At least I won't be seeing her forever. I understand your afraid she'll hate you but if you probably have ot forget about her. The reality is homophobes hardly ever change and either way her reaction is not going to be pleasant. I am very sorry you have to deal with this.

that's tough since u look to her as ur own mom. to save ur relationship u may hafta keep it to urself but then again why hide who u are just because she's homophobic just maybe talk to her about ppl who are g*y and give ur views on it and get into a discussion about it then maybe finally come out to her as being g*y
