  1. It sounds like a socially aware nursing home, hospice care specialist position -- it seems like a new way of marketing a very old idea.

But it's important work nonetheless. Cheers.

From a course of study to prepare students to be continuing care assistance specialists:

"The Continuing Care Assistant Program’s purpose is to prepare students to deliver appropriate short or long-term care assistance and support services in either setting. Through the use of classroom, laboratory and supervised field placements in home care and licensed nursing homes, the program will educate and equip graduates with the necessary tools and skills to deliver appropriate, timely, and respectful client-focused care to the elderly, persons with disabilities or those recovering from illnesses or injuries and their families.

Graduates will provide personal care, light housekeeping, meal assistance and other support services. The CCA program will also contribute to the establishment and maintenance of provincial standards of continuing care on a province-wide basis.

    Employability

The Continuing Care sector is one of the fastest growing fields in health care. Contributing to this growth is the significant aging of our population as well as the systematic shift toward delivering more health care services to individuals in their own homes or nursing homes. These trends have generated a growing need for specially trained personnel to provide short and long term quality personal assistance and support services. The Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) Program has been specifically developed to address this need.

    Philosophy of Care

Every human being has basic needs for security, shelter, nutrition and affection, and the right to have these needs met. The Continuing Care Assistant program is designed to educate and equip Continuing Care Assistants with the ability to provide respectful, appropriate care to all clients that need assistance in the client’s home or long-term care facility."
