  1. Women didn't play a large role in society but they could own land. That's much more than just about any other ancient culture. Men, on the other hand were the bread winners and they were in charge of their children's education.

    18th dynasty pharoahs are extremely interesting on this point because women during this dynasty had a larger and larger role in society. Hatshepsut became pharoah. Queen Tiye was depicted at knee highth to her husband. Nefertiti was on equal terms with Pharoah. Aksepaten (spelling) became sole heir when Tutankhamun died.

    Of all the ancient civilizations, Egypt is most similar to ours.
