Rolex Player of the Year Award: Struggling Tseng stands third, needs wins to boost position
Current world number one Yani Tseng is still as firm as she was earlier this season, but a woeful performance in most of the recent tournaments has dragged her down to the third position in the Rolex Player of the Year Award table.
Tseng got off to a fast start in the current season and managed to clinch three victories thanks to a solid form, but things have been grim ever since the golfing sensation lost her momentum and all she has done in the recent past is hardly finish inside the top 50.
Winless since her last triumph at the Kia Classic 2012 that saw her grab a six-stroke win against South Korean Sun Young Yoo, the Taiwanese star is still as ambitious as she was at the time of her last success, but she now needs to come up with a much more solid strategy for the coming tournaments.
Her first victory of the 2012 season was recorded at the Honda LPGA Thailand where she outrivaled an in-form Ai Miyazato by one stroke. The match slipped into a tough battle after Miyazato ramped up pressure in the final round, but Tseng was quick enough to capitalise on her experience and the much-needed crowd support.
With the 2012 LPGA season coming to a close, it has become very crucial for Tseng to grab more points through victories.
American Stacy Lewis is currently leading the points table, having racked up 184 points so far. Lewis looks determined despite the fact that several Asians are eager to knock her off the top position, but her confidence reflects that she is keen to fight back with the help of more solid finishes in the remaining matches.
Lewis has recorded fourteen top-10 finishes that also include three wins. Speaking to the media during her recent interview, the American golfer said she is firm to move ahead and will try to make a name for herself by winning the Rolex Player of the Year Award.
Lewis said she gained heaps of confidence after she made a stunning start in the season. Having won three tournaments, Lewis is clearly the strongest contender from the United States, who is able to rattle fearsome Asian rivals.
