Rolex extends its sponsorship to Asian Tour – Golf news
The Swiss watch making giant, Rolex, has now extended its sponsorship to the Asian Tour in recognition of the tour’s phenomenal growth in recent years. Rolex is one of the top watch manufacturers in the world and has been associated with golf since 1960
and the relationship received a boost when in 1967 the king of the sport, Arnold Palmer, was offered an endorsement by the company.
Rolex is currently the official sponsor of four majors, along with the World Golf Championships, the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup, the PGA Tour, The European Tour, the China Tour, the PGTI and the LPGA Tour.
This is not the first time the company has come out to sponsor an event on the Asian Tour. Rolex has been sponsoring Asian Tour co-sanctioned events like the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic, Barclays Singapore Open, Avantha Masters and is the official sponsor
of the European Tour, and the PGA Tour. It was seen as natural for the brand to extend its sponsorship to the Asian Tour.
Asian Tour Executive Chairman, Kyi Hla Han, said, “Rolex is synonymous with prestige and excellence and we are honoured to welcome on board a truly global brand. The Asian Tour and our highly talented members are committed in our pursuit for greater achievements
and excellence; and with the support of Rolex, we are confident of reaching our shared goals.”
Rolex also has a long history of individual endorsements, beginning with its first association with Palmer. The company has sponsored many greats of the game like Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Ryder Cup captains Colin Montgomerie, Bernhard Langer
and Paul Azinger, as well as Annika Sorenstam, Lorena Ochoa, Phil Mickelson, Retief Goosen, Adam Scott, Trevor Immelman, Luke Donald, Paul Casey, Camilo Villegas, Martin Kaymer, Jeev Milkha Singh and Liang Wen-chong, to name but a few.
Rolex is recognized worldwide for its precision and quality watches and is associated with several other sports like tennis, sailing, ski and automobile sports. The company has thousands of official Rolex Jewelers worldwide.
The Asian Tour, with its offices in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, has many other official sponsors on its list including J.Lindeberg, Ricoh, Inetol Headwear, Royal Selangor, Singha Beer, Pan Pacific, BlackBerry and Srixon.
