Rolf Aldag ready to announce his future team – Cycling News
Rolf Aldag is keen to join a World Tour team for the coming season as the HTC Highroad team manager has waited and helped his team-mates to find new positions for them. The 42-year-old started his career in 1993 as a bicycle racer and finished his cycling
career in 2005.
He joined team T-Mobile now known as HTC-Highroad as a Directeur sportif after his retirement as a rider and has shown his dedication and hard work with the team that has made team HTC one of the best teams in the world. Rolf is considered as one of the
most experienced sports director and is highly in demand especially after the teams are aware that he is available because of Highroad’s demise.
Rolf has used his sources and has extended his support to help team-mates and staff members find jobs as he was not paying much attention to his own future as he stated during an interview earlier this month, “My wife thinks I’m totally crazy because she
thinks I should be out looking for offers for myself but I think that if the ship goes down then the captain probably shouldn’t jump first.”
The rider announced that he has make a decision and name of his future team will be made public pretty soon as he told a famous cycling website, “I have three more meetings this week. Then I will sleep on it and decide.”
It is expected that HTC Highroad sprint consultant Erik Zabel will move along “We have known each other so long, and has of course an unbelievable know-how. No team would want to miss out on that” Aldag mentioned.
Cyclists are prohibited to announce their new teams until September 1 as a part of their contract but some teams have already named the cyclists signed by them which include Patrick Gretsch and John Degenkolb for Skil-Shimano, Martin and Peter Velits will
represent Quickstep for the coming season, Mark Renshaw for Rabobank and Alex Rasmussen will ride for team Garmin-Cervelo.
With teams and cyclists busy in choosing their new teams for the coming season it will be interesting to see who secures the expertise of Rolf Aldag as services of one of the best sports director in cycling world are up for grabs.
