The 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship will the duo of Amber and Kadie Rolfzen, who are the only sisters playing at the competition, make their debut. The 16-year-old twin sisters are active members of the U.S. Team but they usually play in the Nebraska
Juniors and recently got the opportunity to play for the Youth National Team of USA. At the Nebraska Junior Volleyball Club, they used to play as outside hitters but currently they have been put in the role of opposites.
The 2011 FIVB Girls’ Youth World Championship is a biennial event which invites under-19 girls’ teams from all around the world. This year, the competition was officially opened on Friday, August 12 and teams from sixteen countries showed up in Ankara, Turkey.
They have been great in the tournament so far. Amber is credited for 28 points in the first round matches. Likewise, Kadie put up a good effort and helped the U.S. Team with 12 points on 10 spikes and 2 blocks.
Both sisters have great similarity in their style of play and it is quite difficult for the coach to differentiate between them. He just recognises them by the headband. Kadie also confirmed the fact and said said, "Our coach can not differ between us, for
the difference I put my head band so that the coach knows who is who," explains Kadie showing her headband.
Playing in the same team is like a rivalry for the twins, which helps them to perform better. They started to play at the tender age of 12. Earlier, they tried various other sports as well but preferred volleyball. Their father used to play basketball and
some of the other family members were also into basketball. However, Amber and Kadie made a different choice and opted for volleyball. They are studying at college but they have plans to continue volleyball in future.
Speaking of their experience at the first international event, they shared their emotions and said, "It is our first time when we play in an international tournament. It is awesome to play in the international arena, to see new people, to play with the best
teams of the world. It is exciting,"
