What does it mean when a state passes during a convention?

  1. It means that state wants to be called upon to cast the deciding vote. Generally this is done by the Nominee's home state.

    Arizona passed because they want to be called upon when the roll call of votes has reached the number required to secure the nomination so that Arizona's votes will be the ones that put him over the top.


  2. They are allowing Arizona (His state) to make the nomination, then they will go back and nominate him as a party.
