Question:

Roll top bath renovation?

I am renovating a Victorian Roll Top cast iron bath and I need some assistance. The overflow is lead and there doesn't appear to be any threads to remove it. Do I just melt the lead until it is soft enough to remove?

Thanks

  1. Is the drain plumbing/overflow accessible from the back of the tub, or is it encased in the tub mold itself?

You could also, with caution, use a hack saw, and pliers to cut and twist/pull it out, but again, is the access to the DRAIN itself, available, or is it JUST the vent covering that happens to be lead?

Is there any surface finish on the tub? Certainly if it's VICTORIAN it's unlikely they kiln fired any enamel at 3600 degrees over the cast iron.
