Rolle won't back down from comments
New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin met with safety Antrel Rolle Wednesday, to discuss comments Rolle made questioning the Giants leadership in a radio interview.
While Rolle admitted on Wednesday that he should have talked to Coughlin first, he didn't back down from what he said.
“I don’t feel like I was talking out of turn at all,” Rolle said. “I think I said what needed to be said. No matter who heard it, it needed to be said. I should’ve definitely come to Tom Coughlin before anyone else, which was my bad on my behalf. But what I
said needed to be said.”
Rolle spoke on Tuesday on radio station WFAN, saying that no one, "stepped up to the plate," during the Giants' 38-14 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He also said that the Giants organization was too controlling.
Rolle declined to elaborate on his comment that the Giants were too strict. “I’m not going to talk about control,” he said. “I think I said whatever I needed to say, and I’m leaving that where it is.”
Coughlin said that his meeting with Rolle was a productive one, while also giving a vote of confidence for his team's leadership group. Coughlin said that the team captain, Eli Manning, Justin Tuck and Chase Blackburn, had done, "an outstanding job."
For his part, Rolle also said that the meeting with Coughlin went well, noting that the coach had no problem with what was said, more how it was communicated.
Nonetheless, he hinted at discontent in the Giants' camp.
“Just because it’s not being said, it doesn’t mean they don’t feel that way,” Rolle said of his teammates. “I was relaying that message on behalf of the team. I was expressing what I felt, but I was also relaying a message on behalf of the team.”
