Rolled into this car. Whats the worst case scenario?

Alright. Last night i was at a stop light and without noticing my car (manual transmition) started rolling forward. I bumped the car in front of me going about 1-2 miles per hour.

It was a really nice Honda S2000 too :(

Anyways, we pulled into a gas station and checked the damage. It didn't do anything to my Civic but my license plate made a small 1/4 inch scratch on the bottom of his bumper where you cant really even see it.

He was an asian guy and looked like he probably street raced or something so i could tell he really cared about his car.

At first he acted like it wasnt a big deal after looking at it and said we were cool. Then his girlfriend got out of the car and got my insurance and information "just in case."

It was just a scratch to the paint, no dent or anything. Ive heard stories about ppl buying whole new bumpers for ~500$ just for minor things. This wasnt even a dent though, i dont think it would make sense that he would have a reason to do anything more than leave it or buff it out, but the law works in mysterious ways sometimes.

So whats the worst case scenario here, and the most likely one?

  1. You can always replace fenders/bumpers yourself. Touch up paint doesn't work well...try a buffing compund. If you replace a fender, have just that painted to save money. You just want to ensure the vehicles frame isn't bent. That is very costly and may not even be repairable.

  2. Well...worst case scenario is you have to pay for the damage.

  3. Just pay for the damages to the other car........

  4. cant do anything a clame has to be more than your a ductable and a police report has have more than 2000.00 dollars worth of dammage did you take pictures you should of be cause its could be a fause clame because i am a fork lift oppreator i pick up cars and u put mt forks under neath under the can and i tag the bumber some times and thats is worse than you did and nothing happeds the worse thing they put a clame on you did not take pictures you did not call your insurance company he call your insurance co he gets the clame for 500.00 and then you pay your a ductable and then your insurance qill go up a point  wose case

  5. Your best bet would be to do the right thing and have his whole bumper re-painted. If its not dented or cracked then there is no reason to replace the bumper. Shouldnt cost more than $200 to have it repainted.
