Question:

Roller blades break on a new one?

I have been using my old sister's roller blade. I always break by dragging my right foot behind my left so they make an 90 degrees angle. I went to get a new one because those were too old. I tried it on, I tried to do the break, but instead of sliding it stopped right away and I almost tripped. Or maybe was it because of the floor's texture? I don't think so. Are all new roller blades like that? What can I DOO!??? :_(

  1. Dragging your foot that way is called a T stop.

It is possible that the floor has more grip than your usual trails and it is possible that the wheels on your sister's skates were pretty poor.

If you do the heel stop right, you can adjust the pressure on the foot you are dragging to how fast you want to stop.  You should also have it far enough behind you so that you do not tend to pitch forward as you stop.

Your new skates should have come with a heel brake.  You will be able to stop much faster if you learn to use it properly and you will wear out the brake block instead of relatively expensive wheels.
