Roma defender tips club to excel in Champions League
Roma defender John Arne Riise says that his side have what it takes to be a force in the UEFA Champions League this season.
The former Liverpool player helped his side to a memorable win over German giants Bayern Munich after going 2-0 down before half-time due to a Mario Gomez double.
Marco Borriello hit back for the home side four minutes after the restart, while Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti (penalty) both netted in the last 10 minutes to secure an important win over last season's finalists.
As a result of their resilliancy, Roma need just a point from their last group stage match against Romanian side CFR Cluj on 8 December to confirm their place in the last 16 of the competition, and Riise has tipped the Italian side to do well on the European
stage this year.
He wrote on his blog: "We will keep going in the Champions League and I feel that we have a good enough team to go very far. Going down 2-0 at the interval was bitter. We had played better than them as they'd only had a couple of chances to score.
"But we went on the pitch after the break convinced that we could do it. It was such a beautiful game to play in. De Rossi's goal gave us a great push to win the game. We weren't satisfied with the draw. We were playing in a perfect way in the second half
and the penalty that we got came from a wonderful pass from Totti."
Roma are also playing well on the domestic front as they are still within striking distance of the top of the Serie A table. Leaders AC Milan may be seven points ahead of Roma, but there are still 25 games to be played in the league.
