The Serie A outfit are reportedly looking to launch a five-million Euros bid to acquire the services of the Dutch International in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Reports in Italian and Dutch media indicate that AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 are keen to sign Ajax Amsterdam right-back, Gregory van der Wiel, in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The Serie A outfit is reportedly intending to table a bid in the region of five million Euros, to acquire the Dutch International’s services before the start of the 2012/13 season.
Despite the 24-year-old’s current contract at the Amsterdammers is due to expire in the summer of 2013, it seems unlikely that the Eredivisie champions will let go of the right-back for anything less than eight million Euros this
summer.
Van der Wiel, who has been tipped as one of the best right-backs playing in the highest echelons of Dutch football, is a product of De Joden’s fabled youth academy, and started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the
2007/08 season.
The Dutchman has represented the Amsterdam giants in 122 league matches thus far while adding his name to the score-sheet on 11 occasions. His consistent performances have not gone unnoticed, as several European top flight clubs
are keeping tabs on the full-back.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 were the favourites to secure his signature earlier this season, but the potential move failed to materialise after the La Liga outfit failed to reach an agreement with the defender.
Roma are in the market for a new right-back, and the club management see the Dutch International as their primary target for the right-back position.
Rumours were rife that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 would be tabling a bid in the upcoming summer transfer market to lure the 24-year-old away from Amsterdam Arena. The two clubs have been reportedly targeting the right-back for quite
some time now.
However, following the Dutch stopper’s troublesome 2011/12 season plagued by form and fitness problems, it seems highly unlikely that Chelsea or Barcelona would be tempted to acquire the Dutchman's services this summer.
Nonetheless, Van der Wiel is still expected to represent http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 during EURO 2012.
