Roma president orders his players to be silent
Roma president Rosella Sensi has ordered the players and management team at the club not to speak out to the media.
Roma have made a terrible start to the season in Serie A and find themselves in the relegation zone. Roma manager Claudio Ranieri and his team have only managed to take five points from six games and have only managed one win against Inter Milan.
As a result of their poor form and with numerous articles coming out in the press about disputes within the Roma camp, Sensi has taken action.
The Roma president said, “In sport the team is what counts and that is why we’ll all come out of this situation together. There is silence in the media, but everyone can express themselves on Saturday, October 16 against Genoa.”
The president was unhappy with remarks from former Italian international Gianni Rivera and said, “I don’t like hearing from Gianni Rivera that my players have started speaking out against Ranieri. I don’t like reading that [Francesco] Totti can even think
he’s a problem”
Sensi added, “The truth is that ‘spoken football’ affects our work and we must all learn to be professional when it comes to living with tension, moods and provocation, just as we do with success and enthusiasm. We need a balance and respect for our roles."
Sensi also criticized Roma legend Totti who had suggested that he would quit the club if he was having a bad influence on the team.
“I tell Totti that he is a symbol of Roma and will continue to be on the field of play. As a captain, he sets a positive example for his team-mates and the many youngsters who look up to him.
“Totti will, hopefully as late as possible, also become a director, so I expect a decisive contribution from him in the present and the future,” added Sensi
Roma will hope to put their negative start to the season behind them after this week’s internationals and will hope that they can show the same form against Genoa as they did against Serie A champions Inter Milan a few weeks ago.
