Roma striker Marco Borriello knew his time at AC Milan was over
The Italian striker Marco Borriello was well aware beforehand that his time at AC Milan was over for now and so he would have to jump ships and join yet another club. This season, before the transfer window closed, the player was sent off on loan to the Italian club, Roma.
This loan transfer happened on the last day, in fact just a few hours before the transfer window closed on 31st August 2010. However, Borriello is hopeful with the transfer opportunity that has allowed him to play for Giallorossi. In an interview, he said that with the changes the Italian club is currently undergoing, it was best for him to change his club.
One of the main reasons for his transfer request was that he knew he wouldn’t get much time to play for San Siro anymore. On the other hand, Roma believe that they have a major advantage now in the league by bringing in Borriello. The Serie A club had finished 2nd last season while they seem to be strong competitors this time also.
AC Milan have made several changes in their squad this summer which has caused many of their players to rethink their position in the club. The arrival of Swedish world class player, Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Barcelona has forced many of the team’s strikers to opt for a change. AC Milan are expected to make a great come back this season as they have lined up a star studded line up. The other San Siro based club apart from Inter Milan have now players like Robinho, Ibra, Ronaldinho, Pato, Seedorf, Inzaghi and Mata.
Meanwhile, Borriello has declared that he does not regret his decision to change the club as he knew it was hard to play for AC Milan as they now had a lustrous starting lineup. Even in the last season, the Italian player had a hard time making it into the Rossoneri team. He was disappointed by the club’s coach Massimilano Allegri, who had told him that he cannot guarantee the player time on the field.
Marco was earlier linked to a couple of teams during the summers which included clubs from Brazil and Spain, however, it was expected that he would be making a move to yet another Italian club. Roma is also playing in the Champions League this season and they seem to have organized a brilliant team that is well balanced in all departments. In the end, it is quite possible that Borriello will have made a good decision after all as the club indeed has chances of prospering in Italy as well as Europe.
Borriello maintained, “At Milan, I had understood that at a club level, they had made certain decisions, focusing on other player. So, even if I could stay, I had decided out of my own free will to come to another big club where I could do well.” He added, “I could have quite easily stayed at Milan, at a club that I had grown up at and where I have a home, but I decided to challenge myself. I felt I needed another big club like Roma.” The Italian club will face Bayern Munich this Wednesday in the Champions League encounter.
