Question:

Roma tomato plant leaves?

I have a beefsteak tomato plant and a roma tomato plant, both in containers, both have small fruits starting to grow (yeah!) but I am not familiar with growing roma's, I feed and water both, have good soil, they get strong morning light and filtered afternoon light (my deck has a wood slat roof with screen over it). The roma seems to be doing ok but the actuall leaves seem a little droopy compared with the beefsteak. They are nice and green, just sorta, well, droopy. The stems are nice and strong and like I said I am getting fruits and there are several more buds starting to grow. Thanx! :)

  1. Sounds like everything is A-ok...........I do believe in lots of sun but when in containers not sure........we used to set out 100 plants every year in a field..........so they got it all....and we still had beautiful fruit.....lot of water........sounds like you are doing a nice job........just remember...this stuff likes the same things we do.....

  2. romas love sunshine and let their soil dry out at the end of the day- with morning water- romas take a bit longer than your beefsteak ones so be patient but the extra sun and morning water should bring those droopy leaves back to life

  3. Droopy is fine with tomato plants and the amount of droopiness will vary between types. It's when the leaves turn yellow or brown that you might be concerned about overwatering or lack of nutrients.

  4. It sounds Ok. Did you know there is a miniature Roma in the shops now, called Romatherapy? They are excellant for salads & are just a little larger than a cherry tomato. They are very full flavoured. This is in Australia, I don't know about other countries.
