Romacaca gears up to extend her winning streak in the Grade 2 Ballston Spa Stakes at Saratoga
The 5-year-old mare, Romacaca, has been amazing in her last five races which she have managed to win and has established a formidable 5 out of 5 winning streak, but come 27 August at Saratoga, Romacaca has to dish out her A game despite coming off stellar
performances to win the Grade 2 $200,000 Ballston Spa Stakes on grass.
She is coming off a win in the Grade 3 Matchmaker, run over a distance of 1 1/16 miles on grass. It was her first graded stakes win and perhaps it could not have come at a better time when she gears herself for her first real attempt at the Grade 2 level
race.
Under jockey E Baird, Romacaca showed how big of a engine she has, and it she can up the tempo when she desires as she came back from behind off the pace to win the 1 1/16 mile test in 1 minute and 46.54 seconds.
She defeated Ravi’s Song by 1 ¼ lengths and Perfect Shirl along the way, who finished second and third respectively at Monmouth Park on 31 July, 2011.
Trained by Nick Canani for owner, Frank Calabrese, Romacaca is a versatile 5-year-old stag mare who has almost run on all types of turf conditions and she prefers to be put forward and from there she goes on to win the race, but she can also come off the
pace and surprise a few runners.
The dark bay mare is fond of winning one race after the other, as she has a history of winning races in a cluster.
One of such sort was back in 2009 where she managed a five race win streak, and right now she is leveled with her previous record and might break it on 27 August at Saratoga.
Romacaca is sent off as the 7 to 1 favourite to win the race and at a young age the mare was more of a one dimensional filly who liked to get in the front and keep on going from there said trainer Canani.
She has come a long way, and she is using that experience to be smart on the field and figuring it out as she goes.
