Romain Bardet wins fifth stage as David Boily retains leader’s jersey in L’Avenir 2011
The French cyclists Romain Bardet took his first victory in Tour de L’Avenir 2011 on Friday, September 9. He showed a good effort in the final kilometres and was able to hold his pace and took the fifth stage of the race. David Boily also retained his overall

The race started in Champagnole and ended in Le Saleve. The 20-year-old Bardet took a total of 4 hours, 37 minutes and 3 seconds to cover the distance of 171.5 kilometres.
After few kilometres to go, the group of nine cyclists made their breakaway lead including, Garikoitz Bravo (Spain), Petr Vakoc (Czech Republic), Nils Plotner (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Edwin-Bush-c85746 and Filippo Fortin.
All of them gained a lead but of not more than two minutes over the peloton. Garikoitz Bravo showed his skills and took the first four climb of the stage. After 30 kilometres to go, Dimitri Le Boulch (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/France-c2899) increased his pace and got away as his pace was
stable on the descent.
In the climb to Le Saleve, the Frenchman extended his lead by 1 minute and 40 seconds but in the final four kilometres he was caught. The three cyclists were able to get away including Bardet, Hansen and Chaves.
All of them worked well together and in last 100 metres, Bardet attacked and crossed the finish line ahead of the other cyclists.
Recently, Bardet grabbed the second and third stage of Tour of Pays de Savoie and also took second place in Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
Warren Barguil (France), Tim Wellens (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Belgium-c2850) and Sébastien Reichenbach (Switzerland) were in fourth, fifth and sixth place respectively.
Garikoitz Bravo took the overall King of Mountain title with 89 points and Johan Esteban Chaves was in second spot with 75 points ahead of Tim Wellens. David Boily took the overall standing with a timing of 21 hours, 27 minutes and 38 seconds.
Johan Esteban Chaves was runner-up with 7 seconds ahead of Vegard Stake Laengen (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Norway-c2974) who was in third place with a difference of 21 seconds.
The next stage will run in Fossano as all the cyclists will cover the distance of 153.5 kilometres.
