Romain Grosjean: It is fantastic to finish in second position – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean is feeling very pleased with his performance in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
Grosjean secured an amazing second podium finish after starting the race from 7th grid position. Moreover, he showed incredible pace during the ending laps in which he overtook Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Furthermore, he admired his team for all their efforts during the weekend in Montreal and expressed his gratitude towards them.
“It's been a great day for team. It was an incredible race and one stop strategy worked perfectly for us. It wasn't an easy race, but we wanted to be aggressive to achieve a good result. It wasn't easy to manage second set of tyres for so long, but it worked
so I'll happily do that again for another result like today. It's fantastic to finish in second position on my first visit to Montreal, hopefully I will finish in first on my second time! I would like to thank entire team for amazing job we've done this weekend,”
he said.
In addition, the French driver is presently at 7th place in the drivers’ championship with 53 points. Furthermore, he is 8 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren and just 2 points behind his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen.
On the other hand, Raikkonen could only secure 8th place finish after beginning from 12th grid position in the last race. However, he said that he could have achieved better result if he had started from a higher grid slot.
At present, the Finnish driver is standing at 6th position in the drivers’ rankings with 55 points and is 12 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
Meanwhile, the British team is currently at third place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. Additionally, they are 11 points ahead of Ferrari and 25 points behind McLaren.
It will be important to mention that they have emerged as one of the most competitive teams in the season until now and are trying their best to make the considerable preparations to fight for this year’s championship title.
