Romain Grosjean admits he committed a stupid mistake at Japanese Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Romain Grosjean of Lotus admits that he committed a stupid mistake by colliding in to the Red Bull driver Mark Webber at the Japanese Grand Prix.
He told that he collided in to the Red Bull driver while he was trying to avoid contact with Sergio Perez of Sauber.
He said that he was driving carefully so he may not collide with Perez on his left. He had seen that there was a considerable difference between him and Webber but he collided in trying to avoid contact with Perez. He added that after the incident at Spa
he drives over the circuit very carefully.
Grosjean said, “Ever since I came back in Singapore my priority has been to be very cautious at the start, and I was watching Sergio [Perez] on my left to make sure there was no contact with him. There was quite a big speed difference between me and Mark
[Webber] as I came into the first corner which caught me by surprise and we collided. It was a stupid mistake.”
In addition he added that Webber was angry at the incident and came to him but the French driver apologised at his mistake as he believes that they should move on. Grosjean assured that he and his team will reconsider the matter so that they may not be the
cause of such incidents in future.
“In the last few laps of the race the tyres were at the end of their life and we were out of the points, so it made sense to retire. Not a good day, but we have to look ahead to Korea and a chance to make amends,” he added.
The French driver told that they decided to retire in the Japanese GP because their tyres were wearing out and they would have not been able to attain points. Besides, he is looking forward to the upcoming Korean Grand Prix scheduled on October 14, 2012.
Let’s see how the Lotus driver drives in the upcoming Korean GP because he has already been a major reason of several incidents in the current 2012 season.
