Romain Grosjean admits to being worried about losing Lotus F1 seat for 2013 – Formula 1 news
Romain Grosjean, who has been just been retained by Lotus F1 for the 2013 F1 season, has admitted that he was worried about losing the seat with the team.
“I was worried,” Grosjean told AUTOSPORT. “It hasn't been the easiest part of the season, to get to December when all of the races are done and you are waiting for an answer. I had good discussions with the team owners and we tried to analyse the situation,
understand it and see if we could keep the speed at where we wanted to and to score a lot of points.”
He said that the team wants him to aim at completing races. “It is pretty clear. They just want me to get to the end of the races. That's all we need to do,” he added.
Grosjean told that his first and foremost aim is to perform as best as possible with the car he will be provided. He stated that some of the unwanted events that happened in 2012 F1 season were due to focusing on wrong objectives. He said that while the
prospect of winning a Grand Prix looks fantastic, he is more focused on doing best for the team and manage things one at a time. Grosjean also stated that he has learnt from his mistakes of 2012 which will help him improve for next year.
The French driver was part of many first lap incidents this past season which kept him under negative speculation. However, he was also able to secure three podium finishes for Lotus F1 along with finishing eighth in the drivers’ championship. The 2012 F1
season was Grosjean’s first full year in F1.
Grosjean has also won the Race of Champions (ROC) individual event just ahead of his confirmation with Lotus F1. He won by defeating both reigning F1 champion, Sebastian Vettel, and F1 legend, Michael Schumacher. He also represented team France in the ROC’s
Nations Cup.
Lotus F1 enjoyed a good season with Grosjean’s podium finishes and Kimi Raikkonen’s strong and consistent return to F1 after two years. Raikkonen finished third in the drivers’ championship while Lotus F1 took fourth place in constructors’ championship.
