Romain Grosjean aims at front row of 2012 Spanish Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Lotus driver Romain Grosjean is aiming to get to the front row of 2012 Spanish Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 13.
Grosjean said that to perform well in the qualifying of the Spanish GP is very important as overtaking will be very difficult in this race. Moreover, he said that they are trying to enhance their qualifying performance so as to begin the race with a competitive
grid position.
“In Barcelona it will be important to qualify well, and it will be much harder to overtake than Bahrain,” Grosjean said. “Qualifying is an area where we can still improve a little bit ourselves; we have some ideas of how to improve, and hopefully we'll get
on to the front row.”
The French driver set the best time of Mugello test and stayed ahead of the defending champion, Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing.
Lotus have introduced some major updates in this in-season test with a plan to make the necessary evaluations in order to improve the car’s pace in the races ahead.
Furthermore, it will be important to mention that Grosjean replaced his teammate, Kimi Raikkonen on the second day of the test and run the car on the last two days as the team targeted to make the best possible use of the remaining time.
Additionally, Grosjean said that he is feeling happy with the updates the team has come up with while he said that he will try to bring out the best in him in the upcoming season.
At present, he is standing at 8th position in the drivers’ championship with 23 points and following Raikkonen. Although, he could not score even a single point in the first two races as he was retired. However, he performed reasonably well in the third
race as he secured sixth place finish after starting from 10th place in the grid.
Over and above, after securing an excellent third podium finish in the fourth race at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, he is focusing to fight for a competitive finish in this year’s championship.
